What’s a Memory?

 

 

 Wilfrid Gordon Parker was a little boy who lived next to a nursing home. He liked all the people who lived there. But his favorite person was Ms. Nancy Gordon Cooper because her middle name was the same as his. He told her all his secrets.

 One day, Wilfrid's parents were talking about Ms. Cooper.

 "Poor old lady," said his mother.

 "Why is she a poor old lady?" asked Wilfrid.

 "Because she's lost her memory," said his father.

 "What's a memory?" asked Wilfrid.

 "It is something you remember," said his father.

 

 

 Wilfrid wanted to know more, so he went to his neighbors.

 Ms. Jordan was enjoying the sunlight.

 "What's a memory?" he asked.

 "Something warm, my child," she said.

 Ms. Mitchell was reading a cartoon.

 "What's a memory?" he asked.

 "Something that brings you laughter," she said.

 Mr. Hunter was cleaning his medal.

 "It's something as precious as gold, young man," he said.

 

 

 So Wilfrid went back home to look for memories for Ms. Cooper. He went into the hen house and took a fresh, warm egg from under a hen. Next, he looked for his sock puppet. It always brought laughter to his parents. Finally, he found his football in his toy box. It was as precious as gold to him.

 Wilfrid went to Ms. Cooper and gave her the things one by one. "What a strange, sweet child!" thought Ms. Cooper, "He's brought all these wonderful things." Then she started to remember her past.
